***Back***

I had this massive post discuss my first day on the job and the workload for the rest of the week (on top of a cold). Was just about to post when the wireless access at the coffeeshop shorted out for the rest of the night.

Sigh.

Wow. It's Friday and I haven't posted an entry for four days. The last time I did that...well, I don't remember.

Confirmation of a new Supreme Court justice. Fires in California. Moss in (cocaine) rehab. Lots have been going on in the world which includes my life.

I started working at the third largest computer maker/distributor on Monday. I knew it wasn't going to be easy when I woke up with a sore throat that--you guessed it--progressed into a cold throughout the week. I remember years ago when I took a temp assignment after only four hours of sleep. I barely understood what the client was saying never mind the training. That's how I felt throughout this current one: I think my co-workers began to fear my calling their names as I forgot another lesson.

Nah, it wasn't that bad. I was pretty much left alone on Monday: shown my desk, instructed on a few basic acronyms (e.g., a PDP is a product detail page, etc.) and the like with much of the day spent surfing the company's website.

Tuesday turned everything on its ear.

It's rare that I work a job that I'm so busy that I'm willing to give up lunch. But this assignment is proving to be that way. And while I can ask for over-time to complete the day's work, I rather not do so: this assignment can swallow your life if you're not careful. And I don't have much life at the moment as my bodily energies fight to cure my cold.
