Thursday and Friday Funnies (and not so funny....)

Thursday

Work felt...strange...today. It would have been my last day at this assignment except the client asked to extend it until next week (August 20th). It was my call, of course, and I said yes. I do like the place and the work for the most part.

But I'm ready to leave for a little while. Still need to get the flooring down at the house. And by sheer coincidence there are a ton of book-signings after the 20th (e.g., McCaffrey, Wheaton, etc.)
And I'll be back to this assignment the week after (September) for another department for a week. Yay! And if some...seeds...sprout (details to follow) I may have a perm job at the beginning of October.

Go a call at work from the garage. My car's ready. Unfortunately I don't leave work until after 6 PM and the garage closes at 5:30 PM. Sigh. Well, I'm off tomorrow.

Friday

Oh just frickin' lovely!

Before I left to pick up my car I received a call from an agency I joined back in April. The client I had previously interviewed is looking for a third technical writer for a four-month (minimum) assignment. And they're willing to pay even higher than the first time I interviewed with them. (We're talking in the gross $50k range here, baby.)

Do I accept? There's that possible perm job in October (or, gawds forbid, even in late September). Pays far less but it's far closer (and I'd be off every other Friday). And my current client has asked if I'll be available for future assignments.

And, of course, I'm still trying to convince R. to make me a house husband ;-)

Decisions, decisions....

Grabbed a bite to eat after picking up my car. The server and I hadn't seen each other in a while and he gave me an incredible summary of his currently relationship. Humph. LDS dating a JW. There's plenty of fodder for a book (or several books) in that!

Picked up my comic books. I hope to get to read them by next week. Sigh.

Napped a bit a home before gathering clothes to drop off at the drycleaners . Dropped them off and made it to my sister's place in San Diego in two hours. (Damn traffic).

The weather was actually hot. And sticky. And my sister's place was small. But it was great to see her and her bf, my other sister and her kids (hubbie still at work in L.A.), and my parents. The restaurante we had lunch...well, my standards have changed. But we had a great time overall.

Because of the location, I drove down to Hillcrest afterwards and walked around. R. called me enroute and we chatted a bit.

Checked out all the bookstores but found nothing. And I couldn't believe how humid was the air. I finally stopped at one of our favorite coffeeshop to much on a coffeecake while I watched the (few) beefcake pass by. Thankfully the traffic was light heading home.

Where were you on this date in May (and June and July...)?
(A rare second same day post)

(Image found on the Internet and all rights belong to their owners)

I thought of this little exercise a while ago.

One of the reasons I created and (try to) write and post regularly in my blog is I easily forgot what I've been doing in the past. While it's very Zen, it's very irritating when folks ask me what I've been up to. So I decided I'd look at all the entries--if any--I posted on this day back in May, June, and July and respond to them.

Here are the entries. Read the links before reading the response; otherwise, they make no sense:

Wow. That was a busy post. I think that was the last time we went to the RenFair that month.

And there was all that work on the house: the new A/C and furnance. But they're worth it: the house nicely freezes when we want it. And I'm spending way too much time watching the HDTV. Unfortunately, our pocketbooks still haven't recovered....

Just an update for my other two blogs. Nothing special here. Move along....

Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday, oh my!

Monday

    • I submitted my resume for another city job. Different city. Wish me luck in two months!
    • At work, my fellow co-workers were beginning to panic about what would happen when my assignment ended. They then realized they didn't know what was my last day. One approached me and I told her: Friday, August 20th. We discussed the date and she mentioned that maybe the other departments will ask for me to temp. I thought about her comment after she left and contacted my agency. "No," the recruiter said. "There's currently no order. But let me check." Later the admin of another department came over and asked about my assignment ending. She then asked if I'd be willing to cover for her when she went on vacation. When she gave me the dates and time (one week, part-time) I said I had no prob. She thanked me. Minutes later I received a call from my agency to finalize arrangements.
    • I then realized I had not asked about my rate and called the agency back. Unfortunately, my rate will be considerably lower. I mulled about cancelling the job but remembered one of the reason I accepted the offer was to build good-will. I discuss the issue with R. after leaving work and we both agreed that, for such a short-term assignment, this was a good option. Now I'm going to have to change my original plans while I was "off" between jobs....
    • Interesting. Both my friends JE and BN (JE's ex) called. I called both back and am beginning to pierce what happened between the two of them. Have to plan now when to get together with each separately for social events and to get the lowdown.

    Tuesday
      • Despite working out Monday night for the first time in weeks (see Way) and going to bed around 1:00 AM in the morning, I woke up around 3:30 AM and found it hard to go back to sleep. Grrr.
      • I suffered badly throughout the day at work. And they actually had me doing work. The nerve! Nap that evening helped a lot.
      • Met my friends GC and CS that evening. Had good talks on a variety of subjects. Few things of important: revelation how happy I am to be a "geek" and we're planning to form a "book discussion group" among the three of us. Selection process to begin next Tuesday. Now, what four books to recommend....

      Wednesday
      • I was nearly late for work today. May not seem much but there were...issues...in the past (which I'll discuss at another time. Again, keeping the goodwill and all that.)

      • Parents arrived in San Diego. Yikes! Lot earlier than I expected. Will have to coordinate with my sibs on when to meet them on Friday (which I have an off day.)

      • Today's was R.'s half-day at work. That meant getting back into Orange County (we don't call it The OC) around 4 PM instead of 11 PM. Normally we would go out for din-din but both of us were not in the mood: R.'s feeling down about work and it looks like the radiator in my car sprung a leak. Sigh. Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow....

      Weekend Warriors...NOT (continued)

I had originally planned to wake early (before 10:00 AM) on Sunday to attend one of my favorite cardio classes. But R. turned over and snuggled and I was immediately knocked senseless in a warm and loving embrace. We finally crawled out of bed. Repeating Saturday, we spent most of the morning surfing the Internet: I on my blog and Tribe.net; R. looking for more anime cells.

Weeks ago I had found out that author L.E. Modesitt would be signing at Mysterious Galaxy. R. and I originally planned to go together but, due to work obligations (which was negated by lack of connectivity to the workplace databases), I drove down solo.

(All images found the Internet and belong to their respective owners.)

I enjoyed Modesitt's low-key presentation and will go in depth in a later post. I also purchased a couple of hundred dollars worth of books. (Which is not bad, considering we've easily spent 2-3 times that much on average.) Drive back home was crowded, unfortunately. But R. welcomed me back with open arms and drove us for din-din.

I spent the rest of the evening preparing a resume for a perm job position* while R. read.

*My current job and what's happening to it will require another post.

      Weekend Warriors...NOT

Saturday we crawled out of bed around 10:00 AM which is early for us. Spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon surfing the Internet: R. for anime cells; I on Tribe.net. We finally relented to growling stomachs and drove out to eat.

We had a fine meal at one of our favorite thai food restaurant. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy it as normal since my sinuses started to act up. They remained active throughout the day even after taking meds. Later I realized the true cause: lack of sleep.

(Image found on the WWW. All rights to owner.)

We drove down to the Irvine Spectrum to see if one of the photo stores had the Canon A80, a digital camera. They didn't and, disappointed, we walked about. We later learned that Canon was phasing out the camera for the upcoming A90. Sigh. Technology.

We finally did some "work" by driving up to Buena Park to check out a flooring store recommended by our contractor. R. spent a good hour investigating samples and questioning the proprietor. We took the sames home and continued to discuss the issue. Finally I claimed fatigued and was able to get the necessary rest to relieve my sinuses.

We spent the rest of the evening surfing the Internet and reading. Food, of course, was leftover Thai.

      Relationship Roulette

      (continued)

(Image was found on the Internet and all rights belong to their owners.)

Stopping the roulette wheel here. I was (politely) asked not to mention the last one until after it has been resolved. Otherwise, he's going to bitchslap me into my next life. I'll post something either in late October or November if I remember.

      In other related news....

My own relationship is going strong. I have to admit that I feel...strengthened...with what's been happening around us while reminded never to take one's own SO for granted. Hmmm. Better start planning another vacation together.

      Relationship Roulette (cont.)

I called up my ex JC and sig other JN last week. They're doing much better: that is, their relationship seems to have stabilized. They're doing more group projects together. And having one of the more...troublesome...kids (CC, JC's eldest) with his mom seems to have brought the two closer.

I admit I had some doubts for a while. They had barely made a year before major issues cropped up. One is family: JN's family don't particularly like JC. But the two lovebirds seemed to have resolved their formidable issues (one's too needy and over-sexed; the other's quite...wound up.) R. and I may pay them a visit in Utah either this or next year.

      (to be continued)
